MEDIA EVALUATION QUESTION 7

From my prelim magazine cover I have learnt that the bright colours look good and attract attention but it may be mistaken for a flyer or poster so I have had to make it a bit more formal, I have done this by shortening my masthead to just $, i personally prefered it as STUNT but obvioustly it wasn't a good enough heading.

MEDIA EVALUATION QUESTION 5

I attract my audience by using a classic Hip-Hop look of a snapback turned backwards and a college jacket with hoodie underneath. I do this because my artist is still at college at the age of 17 he is still young and won't be rich, just be well off. I wanted my model to look fashionable but still ‘ghetto’. I also mentioned big names on the front cover of my magazine to kind of relate him to these artists style and it would also be bate for the fish (audience) to be enticed toward and want to read it. I use people such as wiz khalifa who are now the most downloaded Hip-Hop artist EVER on http://www.hotnewhiphop.com/ as he is a major recent superstar, he has been around for a while now but his music has got really clean over late and now he is getting big time thanks to his album 'Rolling Papers'. I also use Mac Miller as him and Wiz are closely related and also at a similar standard of Kid Tromf but he is a lot further ahead, he is now one of the top 5 rappers in America.

(I did do a movie maker but it refuses to upload)

MEDIA EVALUATION QUESTION 6

MEDIA EVALUATION QUESTION 4

Audience

MEDIA EVALUATION QUESTION 3

The kind of people that may distribute my magazine are people that may distribute magazines such as K-mag or Rago magazine. These are both UK based magazines that focus on the genre of hip hop, they also focus on other genres of music but these are as close the type of magazine I want to find. Hip hop is a mainly American based genre of music as it is not massive in the UK. The majority of Hip Hop fans in the UK are into grime music and other sorts of faster based maybe drum and base kind of rapping, this isn’t real original hip-hop it has been changed and adapted.

The publisher of Kmag is Phoenix Publishing, formerly Vision Publishing so I feel that these could be the people that would publish my magazine although they pride themselves on being the largest selling drum and base magazine in the uk I find this as a good way to advertise my magazine as if in some way they could be partnered that would help sell both magazines massively.

MEDIA EVALUATION QUESTION 2

2)      I would say that my magazine is definitely aimed towards a certain social group; the main thing aiming it towards a certain social group is the genre of music. You love it or you hate it. Hip-Hop is a controversial genre of music as most Hip-Hop artists use vulgarisms in there rhymes or taboo terms more than any other genre of music I would say, up there with heavy rock and maybe the occasional bad song. But I feel that these terms are only used to get a physical image into your head and to show strength and passion within the rhymes.

The fans of my magazine should be hip-hop fans that appreciate the music for what it is and the movement it has taken over the world over late, it is now in the charts on the TV and all over the media. Hip Hop is taking over the world at this point in time. I am trying to broaden the quite in closed social group that my magazine is aimed at by also including the sub genres of extreme sport and fashion within the grimy hip hop genre.

The artist presented in my magazine is a white rapper which is un-common to see in the hip hop scene all though over late quite a lot of white rappers have been coming up e.g. Mac Miller, Eminem, MGK (Machine Gun Kelly), Bennie Banks and others, these rappers all have similar styles for instance they all like the typical hip hop snap back, college jacket or baggy t-shirt and tattoo’s although they all do have defining features. This will make the magazine feel more open to white people as hip hop is mainly presented as a black man’s culture; it may also open it to the girls or groupies and make it more open more than just the heavy hip hop fans.

The people that will read my magazine are mainly classed as the ‘Urban Tribe’ according to the website www.UKTribes.com this means that the majority of my social group watch the TV, Listen to the radio or they read magazines. The main brands that they wear are Nike or addidas and obey or stussy.

MEDIA EVALUATION QUESTION 1

1)      My media product challenges/matches the generic conventions of a typical magazine. I do not have any sub headings or strap lines on my cover more do I have any previews of articles featured. I have shown the names of two other artists featured in the magazine other than the main article, which as ‘KidTriomf’… Kid Triomf is my artist that I have made up ad displayed on my front cover as the main feature.  I had to improvise a cover image for my front cover as the images I had taken for the article were not suited to the genre or artist, nore were they clear enough. I was lucky enough to find several images of my friend who was a perfect candidate for the artist that could be improvised and edited in. The images aren’t the clearest and the actual pose itself challenges the general conventions of a magazine as he is posing with his middle finger in the air. I took the pictures myself in my bedroom with him a while ago last winter.

My contents page follows general conventions of a normal contents page by having 3 columns including; New Features, Artist index and main features, but mainly by the fact of having the main features and artist index keeps it within the generic conventions along with the layout of:

I feel that I can improve my contents page by having a more formal layout and maybe I could segregate parts of my magazine and put them in sorted segments e.g. Live performances could have gigs, show reviews and Live show photography. I could then group things such as Fashion together and maybe have more stylistic photos included. I might have a section for upcoming artists etc. I could show all of this on my contents page as at the min I think it isn’t all it could be.

I feel that my double page spread follows the conventions of an ordinary magazine quite appropriately and suits the type of magazine I am making, I feel I could have taken more time on the cropping and editing as once printed out I noticed a few mistakes that could have been avoided by paying a little more attention to the magazine.

My magazine compared to this is similar in particular ways, e.g. it is quite plane and has a lot of blank space, and that is similar to the type of magazine I wanted to create.
I feel my magazine has a similar vibe to this magazine also.

Contents Prelim

This is the kind of contents that i have come to a conclusion i want.

Front Cover Prelim

His headis a little see through but we could no0t figure out why.

This is my 1st prelim example of the kind of magazine cover i would like to use! I have chosen new font types for the subtitles but i think it works well. This is my favrouit edit so far because of all of the colour.

Trying to get me set up right

Prelim DoublePage Spread

This is my 1st attemotat making a doublepagespreadfor an article. I have included allof the features i wanted and experimentedonmerging pictures togeather like i 1st did on my experimenting with photshop post. Danny is notmy modelbut these are a few pictures we took as maybe including the same kind of photo's on my magazine.
To improve on this i could remove the image that is shown most clearly on the left that way it is less busy and will make the other images shine out.

Publication

Mock Up's

This is a quick Mock Up of what i think my magazine contents page would look like. I will add more detail to it, use the idea of having a photo on the left hand side and then fade thumb nail  sized photo's in that are relevant to the other stories in my magazine as if it were real it would have more than just ohoto's of the one artist.

This is my Double page spread Mock Up that i have decided on, maybe having a wall photo of someone dressed in attire that suits my genre. This person will then be on my front cover and contents in charicter of my artist. I would like to add the text mixed in with the images etc. i have a plan of what i want to do.
(my front cover needs re-doing as it has been lost today)

Experimenting with Photoshop

Experementing with a fish eye lense
to get a comedic look on making
the head look larger than average.

By merging two images togeather i thought that
i could maybe get a cool double page spread image or
image for my contents page, i think that i could
improve it by adding more of the faded pictures in
so that it looks like a time line of him moving
along.

Mid Shot Poses

These photo's are simple mid shot poses that i could incorperate into my front cover magazine, i wouldn't want the model looking directly at the camera as it wouldn't be the best photo it could be. I would rather the model looking away at some angle so i experimented with the idea of tilting there heads into different angles to see witch way would look the most aesthetically pleasing.

Magazine Article

Q+A:
How does it feel to be named as the comeback of British Hip-Hop?
‘‘It feels like a great weight on my shoulders to uphold that responsibility to get Britain back on the map and to get my message across. But on a whole it isn’t just me, my brother has bought me into the game and he’s sticking with me to help me through it. I have my fans also’’
You and Big Jurn have been collaborating through the years how do you feel about going to the states?
‘‘If I go to the states it will be short time only I am not turning my back on my country or my fans, I will always stick to my roots and stay close to my friends and family.’’
All this fame has almost come over night to you, 3 years ago you were only rapping in street battles and the move to having offers thrown at you and big names wanting to meet you surely must get to your head?
‘‘I am going to stay true to what I rap for. I write my own songs and me and Jurn have a laugh with what we do, we try not to take it too seriously. All of my great things will come in time, and yes it will be pretty awesome if I get the opportunity to hook up with Wiz and the Gang. I will promise not to smoke too much. Sorry mum.’’
Of course you haven’t released a mix tape or a debut album before so this is a 1st. Some may say you’re not a big sensation yet, but your YouTube hits are through the roof. Would you say that you are the future of Hip-Hop?
‘‘Well I’m here aren’t I, I wouldn’t say that I am the future of Hip-Hop, I am an individual artist that has risen from the suburbs of Leicestershire to spread my message. Live your life don’t waste it! That is all I want to do, I say F**k the haters and let them hate I am here because I am different and am bringing back the classic recipe to Hip-Hop. I am young and am still studying the ins and outs of music at Leicester College, I haven’t had time to do an album or make mix tapes, I want to build on what I have and maybe one day I can be the ‘future of Hip-Hop’. I am still young.’’
Your Mix tape features a remake of the classic song “Gimme’ the Loot” by Biggie Smalls a world famous Hip-Hop Icon. This is a tribute Mix tape is it not?
‘‘Notorious, Biggie, B.I.G has been a massive influence to not only me but just about everyone who inspires to be a young famous Hip-Hop genius, and that is exactly what he was. His life was cut short for no reason other than petty beef that was uncalled for. I inspire to the both Tupac and Biggie but I see biggie as the biggest influence towards the way I rhyme today and the person I am today. Obviously my brother was a massive Hip-Hop head and was into the East Coast West Coast stuff, this interested me when I was still a Yute.’’
How did your name come about, ‘Kid Triomf’?
‘’Well when I was young my mum used to call me ‘part superior de triomf’, this is Spanish for top trump as I was always a high achiever in my classes at school etc. I shortened it to triomf and added kid in front while I was in the UK because of my young talent, I was still just a kid.

Magazine article

‘Kid Triomf’ is an upcoming British artist bringing old school rhythms back to the modern day Hip-Hop scene. As time has moved on Hip-Hop has changed and adapted, it used to be about quick flows and rhyming now it is as if it has become poetry based around a strong beat and baseline in the back to fill the lack of rhyming. Kid Triomf is coming up and wanting to overcome that poetry feel. He comes with quick flows, hard blows and traveling the world with his killer ass shows!
Moving to Leicester his family migrated into a 3 bedroomed house, housing him, his mum and dad, sister and older brother he was bought up in a shared room. His brother was the oldest and was a heavy old school Hip-Hop fan. Kid Triomf was into the music and grew up in the room full of posters of rappers such as ‘BiggieSmalls’ ‘Tupac Shakur’ ‘IceCube’ and ‘Ll Cool J’. His brother bought Kid Triomf into the world by starting him out in MC battles recognising his talent at the local hot spot, he soon got recognised and people from all over the midlands were hearing about him. His YouTube hits were rocketing up sky high, he moved on from the grunge hot spot in the middle of Leicestershire and started performing in clubs at the age of 15, he is now moving up in the world and managed to get himself some studio time. His name was becoming to be known and his style of battling was original, he was quick and hit hard but he was tired of battling and wanted to rap for a meaning. He began hooking up with a well-known DJ named ‘Big Jurn’ and were producing some fresh new beats that added to the sound of ‘Kid Triomf’, the two of them were linking up on a regular bases producing new tracks that they were getting all positive feedback on from the world of YouTube. He is just an average boy from Leicester studying Music at Leicester College. High Grades and still living two separate life’s, he is growing up quick and now at the age of 17 he is in his last year at college and starting to focus on getting his record deal. He is taking a dive into the Hip-Hop business with all the odds supporting him.
His debut mix tape ‘CooLoot’ is a dedicated mixtape to the famous rapper biggie smalls who he has idled his whole life. The track list features an artist cover on the biggie smalls track ‘Gimme da Loot’. Kid Triomf is in tight with ‘Jurn’ and the colab mixtape is making big news over the whole of UK it is said to be putting UK Hip-Hop back on the map. He has been offered record signings from independent record labels such as ‘Criminal Records’, ‘Fat City Recordings’ and ‘Real World Records’.
Kid Triomf has been contacted by the Pittsburgh GangGang upcoming sensational Hip-Hop group Taylor gang to talk about possibly going to America to record a collaboration mixtape with the ‘Taylors’ rumoured to be named ‘Jet Smoke’. We are lucky to have Kid Triomf to talk to us about this new sudden fame and Taylor collaboration.

MacMiller example

This is similar to the kind of Cover i want i designed this in my own time to the colour scheme i have decided to use. I think it works as MacMillers mixtape is called K.I.D.S in bright bold colours, literally the same as my colour scheme, he is the kind of artist i want in my magazine.
The text used is a kind of computor text i like this as it is relevant to the target audience of my magazine and it is simple, clean and easy to read.
The subheading tells you all you need to know about why he is on the front cover and what his article is about.

Camera Roll

I like this photo even though i did not take it but i think that this kind of photo would work for my magazine. Dani took the photo but i think it suits my genre.

These are a collection of hats from a shop in Leicester town, this is the style of clothing i want involved in my media magazine shot.

I wouldn't use George as the model in my main magazine cover as he is to pasty faced and more suited towards an 'indie' genre maybe. I need someone rough looking and with abit of grit to them.

These are just a couple of camera testing shots to see how i would want my model to be posing. Thes images are more suiting towards a Contents or double page spread image.
