Publication

The kind of people that may distribute my magazine are people that may distribute magazines such as K-mag or Rago magazine. These are both UK based magazines that focus on the genre of hip hop, they also focus on other genres of music but these are as close the type of magazine I want to find. Hip hop is a mainly American based genre of music as it is not massive in the UK. The majority of Hip Hop fans in the UK are into grime music and other sorts of faster based maybe drum and base kind of rapping, this isn’t real original hip-hop it has been changed and adapted.

The publisher of Kmag is Phoenix Publishing, formerly Vision Publishing so I feel that these could be the people that would publish my magazine although they pride themselves on being the largest selling drum and base magazine in the uk I find this as a good way to advertise my magazine as if in some way they could be partnered that would help sell both magazines massively.

MacMiller example

This is similar to the kind of Cover i want i designed this in my own time to the colour scheme i have decided to use. I think it works as MacMillers mixtape is called K.I.D.S in bright bold colours, literally the same as my colour scheme, he is the kind of artist i want in my magazine.
The text used is a kind of computor text i like this as it is relevant to the target audience of my magazine and it is simple, clean and easy to read.
The subheading tells you all you need to know about why he is on the front cover and what his article is about.

Fashion Withing my scene

In these pictures of female and male fashion i have inlcluded all sorts of people from hip-hop to 'roch chicks' the fashion is all merging togeather now, indie is following the usual skateboard fashion for the males but female fashion is completely different and individual for the hip-hop scene, when you see most female hip-hop artists it is all fake and one time wear fashion in the video's but in real life it is more rock based and tight fitting or loose, more is less. e.g a big jacket with barley anything on there legs or lower body.

A different look

This is my favrouite type of magazine cover, something that looks more like art than everyother magazine cover. The editing on this i think is pretty cool and attracts me. The hard rock look and fire is fitting to suite the personality of Wiz Khalifa and his type of music. The way that the subheadings have been done is my favrouite part, even down to the writing at the bottom of the cover it all looks good!

This is Brandon aged 16, He is a student at leicester college on a 2 year plastering course. Brandon lives in Broughton Astley and is into the Hip-Hop music & culture.
Quote: 'My favrouite element of Hip-Hop has to be the life style represented through the music.'
When i went on to ask why that was he went into detail about the how the lifestyle portraid in this type of music is a rich, wealthy and relaxed lifestyle. He sais it gives you something to aim for and that it isn't just some kids from the ghetto saying words to a beat, it is talent, it's life stories presented by the artist through spoken, rhythmically spoken poetry.

I agree Hip-Hop is more than music blared out in the projects of America, It is a culture, Hip-Hop is a lifestyle more than a genre, to live Hip-Hop there are 6 elements.
Recently Hip-Hop artists have merged with R&B/soul artists creating more publically acceptable songs that have started to make it mainstream and play about with the top 40 charts, a big name to hit the charts lately is Wiz Khalifa. Wiz is a born on September 8th, 1987. He is a proffetional rapper/R&B artist, his parents divorced when Khalifa was about three years old. His parents' military service caused him to move regularly: Khalifa lived in Germany, England, and Japan before settling in Pittsburgh where he attended Taylor Allderdice High School, where he made friends for life.
Cameron Jibril Thomaz (Wiz) and his main man Chevy Woods started there own gng, hence Taylor Gang, when both friends and rappers became proffestional Taylor gang became a world wide fan base. The rappers then began to see there fans as fellow 'Taylors' and accept anyone in. They use this as a way to show acceptance to Hip-Hop.
Quoted: "To be a Taylor you can be anybody, weather your black, white, yellow, pink, purple or blue your a motherf**k**g taylor!"
To me, this shows acceptance to the music.

Research into article idea's

This sort of event are things that i could be talking about in my contents page or for my 2 page spread article.
I would focus in on the fantasy factory for the 2 page spread and maybe do it on one of Rob Dyrdecs charity events.

Rob has his own charity to support the youth of today that enjoy skateboarding. His charity supports getting the sport legalised on the streets instead of having set parks designed by council members that know nothing about the sport. The relevamce of me linking skateboarding and hip hop is because they both go hand in hand. The 6 parts of hip-hop are:
1)Mc'ing.
2)Performing.
3)tagging.
4)Ink.
5)Attitude.
6)Skateboarding.
Although this may not be much of a role model life style to it, it is what is considered to be the 6 elemants of hip-hop.

How Hip-Hop is represented

Hip-Hop is represented by tattoo's, snap back caps and attitude. Many rappers happen to have full body suits on people such as Whiz Khalifa.
These are all of Whiz's tattoo's:

I like the idea of having tattoo's to represent who you are, where your from and achievemants or memmories.

If i were to convinsingly recreate this effect of having a full body suit i would have to get a pen and drw these tattoo's on, i will mainly have tyo cover my body up so that there is not asmuch work to be done. I will wear a hat, hoodie and baggie jeans for the photo.

Hip-Hop magazine covers.

This is the style of magazine cover that i like and will try to get the hang of, it is clean and strait to the point for me. I like the way the people are represented in these images, it shows there persona that they would want to get across very clearly, as seriouse rappers.

Cover Junkie magazine covers.

I like this magazine cover as it is simple and shows all that needs to be seen forthe magazinecover, I also like the topic of the magazine cover.

I like the layout of the magazine cover, It includes information and the texts on it aren't boring and include variety. Some magazines can be a bitblandor boring.

Ilike the photography in this photo, it has good colours and it has been edited smoothly and draws attention to the middle of the page.

I think this magazine cover is cool and integues me as it is cleaver art. It is bold and stands out.

I like this as i like the topic of the magazine, the colours are good and they have kept it simple without trying to be too fancy.

This magazine cover is funny and attracts my attention by the guys expressin it makes me react to it in a similar way, it is nicely layed out as it leaves space for the background of the picture also witch adds depth.

This magazine cover attractedmy attention not only because there is hot women on the front but i like the way how the subheadings are layed out and the way the lights are spreadover her body attracts the eye through the cover by using a 'Z' model.

This magazinecover is simpleand attracts my attractes my attention as it is more artistic than most magazinecovers,it doesnt just have a person on the front it has a fist, that stands for something.

I like this cover as the headings are layed out to add to the picture, the mix of colour and black and white makes sertain parts ofthe cover stand out.

Magazine cover models. Z

These are two magazine covers for Da Vibe and another magazine (i can't really see the name) but still they are good representations of the 'Z' shape model for magazine covers, The Z shape zig zags across the page, drawing your eye from one sub heading to another or dragging your eye from the title and through the picture to the sub heading at the bottom often on the right. This is an effective way to fill a page with sub headings and brief acrtical snippits, or two show a full page 'mid-shot'.

Magazine cover models. F

Here are two magazine covers from Rolling Stone magazine and Vogue magaznine, these magazine follow the 'F' shape model as it is an attractive way to layout a front cover page for a magazine. Natually the eye gets drawn to the left hand side of the page so if your writing is on the left hand side and your immage in the centre, you can have an effective and attractive front cover piece.
